21st Century Soft Skills for Teachers in VET

Project number: 2020-1-LV01-KA202-077561

The project “21st century soft skills for teachers in VET” aims to help teachers in vocational education and training institutions take their teaching skills up to the next level. Participants will be taking part in a series of practical guidelines that will encourage them to work on their own interpersonal soft skills, which will show a positive impact on the quality of their lessons.

Innovation

We, humans, are able to think in a creative, flexible way that computers cannot. It is for this reason that so-called "soft skills" such as innovative thinking will be so important in the future.

Collaboration

Two brains work better than one. The more hands, the better. There is power in numbers. Despite the clichés, they illustrate an important point: Collaboration is often the best approach.

Creative Thinking

It can’t be emphasized enough how important it is to make sure students are prepared for a future where creative problem solving and critical thinking will be critical.

What Is Our Project About?

Teachers are working in a fast-paced environment, that can be described accurately by a quote widely shared on social media:

Teachers “are currently preparing students for jobs and technologies that don’t yet exist, in order to solve problems that we don’t even know are problems yet”.

To face the unknown, certain soft skills must be developed as part of the educational process. But what is needed or required from teachers? How can they support the development of skills they learn through methodical materials?

Our partners developed a training course for VET teachers based on research with teachers, students and employers on key skills to be acquired.

Project activities will include the professional development of VET educators, so that teachers are able to effectively support 21st-century soft-skill learning.
